Once convicted of a moving violation, the points are assessed against your license or driving record based on the date of violation of the ticket. If you accumulate 11 points or more with dates of violation within an 18 month period of each other, The NYS DMV will generally suspend your license for a certain amount of time. You may be able to avoid a suspension by taking a defensive driving class. Likewise, three or more speeding ticket convictions with dates of violation within an 18 month period, will lead to a 6 month license suspension
